Ashot Khachatryan



Famous Russian painter and honoured artist of the Russian Federation Ashot V. Khachatryan was born in 1954 in Armenia. October (now Armavir). In 1973, he graduated from the Yerevan Decorative and Applied Arts School. After two years of study at the Drawing Department of Khachatur Abovian Yerevan Pedagogical Institute, in 1977, he moved to Leningrad. From 1978 to 1981, he was a freelance student at Ilya Repina Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of the USSR Academy of Arts.

In 1992, he joined the Saint-Petersburg Union of Artists. Since 1993, he has been a member of the painting section bureau; since 2002, he has been a board member of the Saint-Petersburg Union of Artists. He received the gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation for his services in developing national culture and art during many years of his prolific activity.

Since 1981, he has been participating in exhibitions in Russia and abroad, as well as in international open-air exhibitions. The artist has held more than thirty personal exhibitions, including in 2005-2006 at the Central House of the Artist in Moscow, in 2010 – “My Palette” exhibition in the Great Hall of Saint-Petersburg Union of Artists, which featured more than a hundred paintings, and in 2012, “Poetry of the World and Color” in the Central Exhibition Hall “Manezh”. Two personal exhibitions, “60 Shades of Red”, were held in large museums - in 2014 at the National Art Gallery of Armenia and in 2015. - in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

His art is familiar to art experts and amateurs in Europe. His personal exhibitions were held in Holland and Finland several times, and in 2011, A.V. Khachatryan took part in the 54th Venice Biennale.
